Mount Barker is a small town on the Albany Highway in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia . In 2011 the city had 1,795 inhabitants.

Mount Barker is 360 kilometers south of Perth and 50 kilometers north of Albany . The coastal city of Denmark is around 50 kilometers southwest by road. The Hay River rises west of Mount Barker.

Agriculture and animal husbandry determine the local economy. Among other things, there is also viticulture . The city is the administrative seat of the Local Government Area (LGA) Shire of Plantagenet .
