Mount Benkert is a 700 m high nunatak in the west Antarctic Ellsworthland . It is the easternmost of the Snow Nunatakkers and rises 13 km east-southeast of Mount Thornton on the English coast .
He was discovered and photographed during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him after Captain William Michael Benkert (1923-1989) of the United States Coast Guard , commander of the USCGC Eastwind icebreaker during Operation Deep Freeze in 1966 and 1967.
