Mount Cumming is a mostly snow-covered and extinct shield volcano in Marie-Byrd Land, rising only a little from the Antarctic ice sheet . It lies between Mount Hampton and Mount Hartigan in the Executive Committee Range .
The mountain was formed around 10.4–9.7 million years ago. Its summit consists of a round and snow-covered crater , the highest point of which is Annexstad Peak at 2612 m . On the southern flank of Mount Cumming is Woolam Peak .
Scientists of the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) discovered it during an overflight on December 15, 1940. It is named after Hugh S. Cumming Jr. (1900–1986), member of the executive committee of the United States Antarctic Service at the State Department of the United States . The United States Geological Survey mapped the mountain using its own measurements and using Trimetrogon aerial photographs taken by the United States Navy between 1958 and 1960.
