Mount Hawthorne is a prominent mountain on Thurston Island off the Eights coast of West Antarctic Ellsworthland . In the Walker Mountains it rises just south of the base of the Noville Peninsula .
It was discovered by participants in the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-1941) during a flight over on February 27, 1940. The expedition leader Richard Evelyn Byrd named him after Roger Hawthorne (1905-1973), a participant on this research trip.
