José Antonio Andrés Guillén (born January 18, 1974 in Gandia ) is a former Spanish sprinter who has specialized in the 400-meter run and was also successful with the Spanish 4-by-400-meter relay .
Athletic career
Andrés made his international appearance for the first time at the European Junior Athletics Championships in 1993 , where he was eliminated in the preliminary round as 14th in the 400-meter run and he was also unable to qualify for the final with the Spanish relay. In 1997 he was able to qualify for a senior championship for the first time, but failed again in the preliminary round of the 1997 World Indoor Athletics Championships . In the summer of the same year he was also able to qualify for the outdoor world championships in Athens. The following year he reached the semifinals of the European Indoor Championships in Valencia and won the silver medal in the relay at the Ibero-American Championships in July. The supposed climax of his career was probably achieved at the European Championships in Budapest a few weeks later, when he was able to win the bronze medal again with the Spanish relay. In the individual competition he reached the semi-finals by achieving a new personal best. In 1999 he was able to improve his personal best and ran a time of 46.23 s in Monachil . He was able to qualify again for the two world championships, but failed again in the preliminary rounds. In 2000 he focused more on the shorter sprint distances, where he was able to achieve his best performances in the 100 and 200 meter runs. Furthermore, the Spanish relay qualified for the Olympic Games in Sydney , where they finished 20th. In 2001 Antonio Andrés was able to qualify for a major international event for the last time. At the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton , Canada , the Spanish relay reached 6th place in the final.
