Mount Hodges is a 605 m high mountain in the north of South Georgia . It rises 1.5 km west of Mount Duse immediately northwest of the head end of King Edward Cove in the Cumberland East Bay .
Participants in the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–1903) under the direction of Otto Nordenskjöld undertook the first rough mapping of the mountain. The German zoologist and doctor August Emil Alfred Szielasko (1864–1928), who mapped the area around the mountain when visiting South Georgia in 1906, named it the Moldaenke mountain . The designation established today prevailed in later years. It is named after the captain (and later admiral ) Michael Henry Hodges (1874-1951) of the Royal Navy , who was on an inspection trip for the British whaling industry in the waters around South Georgia between 1905 and 1906 .
