Mount Howe is an elongated mountain of 2,930 m altitude, the low at the base of mountain ridges and gable Nunatakker followed. It rises on the east flank of Scott Glacier across from Mount McIntyre . Mount Howe, including its much smaller, southern witness mountains, is the southernmost mountain in the world at a distance of around 287 km from the geographic South Pole .
It was discovered in December 1934 by the geological team of the second Antarctic expedition (1933–1935) of the US polar explorer Richard Evelyn Byrd . Byrd named him after the journalist Louis McHenry Howe (1871-1936), a political advisor to US President Franklin D. Roosevelt .
