The United States Geological Survey mapped it based on its own surveys and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1961 to 1967. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1966 after Jerry W. Huffman (1934-2014), scientific director of the United States Antarctic Research Program on the Eights Station in 1963.
