The Mount Kennedy is a 4238 m high peaks of the Saint Elias Mountains in Kluane National Park in the Canadian territory of Yukon . The Canadian government named the summit after US President John F. Kennedy in January 1965 .
Mount Kennedy is separated from Mount Alverstone ( 4420 m ), 5.94 km to the west, by a 3880 m high saddle . North below the summit is the Kennedy Glacier , a subsidiary glacier of the Dusty Glacier . The southwest flank is drained by the Cathedral Glacier . The southeast flank is drained towards the Lowell Glacier .
Ascent history
The summit was first climbed on March 24, 1965 by Senator Robert F. Kennedy , brother of the assassinated US President, accompanied by experienced alpinists over a technically easy route from the Cathedral Glacier . The other expedition participants were James Whittaker , Barry W. Prather, James Craig, William Allard, Dee Molenaar, George R. Senner and Bill Prater. Several personal items were placed at the summit in memory of John F. Kennedy.
