The Mount Alverstone is a 4420 m high mountain in the Saint Elias Mountains on the border of Alaska to the Canadian territory of Yukon . It is one of the mountains known as Fourteener in the USA .
Mount Alverstone is 98 km northeast of Yakutat . A 3840 m high saddle separates it from the higher Mount Hubbard, 3.72 km south . To the east, a ridge leads to Mount Kennedy , a sub-peak, 5.94 km away . The northeast flank of Mount Alverstone is drained by the Dusty Glacier , the west flank over the Alverstone Glacier to the Hubbard Glacier . Below the southeast flank is the Cathedral Glacier .
The mountain was named in 1908 after Lord Richard Everard Webster Alverstone (1842–1915), who at that time held the office of Lord Chief Justice of England . His vote as Boundary Commissioner decided in 1903 the Alaska border conflict to the detriment of Canada.
Peaks that lie on the border line from Alaska to British Columbia or to the Yukon Territory are numbered consecutively as "Boundary Peaks" ( German : Grenzgipfel). Mount Alverstone is numbered 180.
