Mount Monson is a 1155 m high mountain in Marie Byrd Land in West Antarctica . In the Ford Ranges it is the highest point of the Mackay Mountains and rises 2.5 km northeast of Vivian Nunatak in the southwest part of this group.
Scientists from the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) discovered and mapped it. The United States Geological Survey mapped it on the basis of its own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from the years 1959 to 1965. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the mountain in 1970 after Lieutenant Laurence Christen Monson III. of the US Navy Reserve Forces , co-pilot of an LC-130F Hercules during Operation Deep Freeze in 1968.
