description

The mount noorat is one of the largest volcanoes in the Newer Volcanics Province of Victoria. It rises 310 m above sea level, has a diameter of 400 m and its crater is 150 m deep. The crater is not filled with water. There are further elevations and depressions around the main crater, which may indicate further volcanic eruptions. The volcanic tuff at lower altitudes suggests eruptions that took place as explosions when lava came into contact with water. The tuff that has deposited in the west of the volcano is mined in quarries . The volcanic mountain consists of several layers of tuff and lava flows in which there are numerous lherzolites and xenolites .

Aboriginal

The mount noorat is after the Elder Ngoora by the Aborigines of Kirrae Wuurong named. It is of great importance to them as it was a trading place for spears, stone axes and other goods.
