Mount Palombo is a 1030 m high mountain in Marie Byrd Land in West Antarctica . In the Ford Ranges it looms at the northeastern end of the Mackay Mountains .
Scientists from the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) discovered and mapped it. The United States Geological Survey mapped it based on its own surveys and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1959 to 1965. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the mountain in 1970 after Lieutenant Robert A. Palombo, aircraft commander during Operation Deep Freeze in 1968 .
