Mount Peary ( French Massif Peary ) is a striking mountain range on the Graham Coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . The mountain is 1900 m (according to British data 1800 m ) high with a flattened, snow-covered summit several kilometers in length and an almost insignificant western peak. On the Kiev Peninsula, it rises 11 km east-northeast of Cape Tuxen and dominates the area between the Wiggins and Bussey glaciers .
He was discovered during the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908-1910) under the direction of Jean-Baptiste Charcot . Charcot named the mountain after the American polar explorer Robert Edwin Peary (1856–1920), who was believed to be the first man at the geographic North Pole .
