Mount Rowland is a 1550 m high mountain with a pointed peak in East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the Saint Johns Range, it looms in the center of Rutherford Ridge .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 2008 after the American chemist and Nobel Prize winner Frank Sherwood Rowland (1927–2012), who in 1974 together with Mario J. Molina first described the breakdown of ozone catalyzed by chlorofluorocarbons .
