Moussa Diagne (born January 11, 1984 in Thiès , Senegal ) is an American - Senegalese basketball player .

Career

School and study in the USA

Born in Senegal but attending high school in the United States, Diagne initially favored soccer as his favorite sport, but changed his mind after seeing his sister play basketball on TV. Thanks to long arms and exceptional athleticism, he quickly turned out to be talented and moved to Furman University after high school in the summer of 2003 . In the same year he also ran for the first time for the national team of Senegal and at least reached the semi-finals of the Africa Cup .

In his first year at college, he put on solid statistics with 7.6 points and 4.1 rebounds, for which he was rewarded with the election to the all-freshmen team of his conference. After another strong season, in which he was able to increase his statistics again significantly (12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds), he ran in July 2005 in the Southern California Summer Pro League for the Senegal team. He then returned to college and was elected to the All Southern Conference 3rd Team after his junior year (11.8 points, 4.9 rebounds). In his final fourth year of college, he got 13.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

Professional in Germany

In the summer of 2007 Diagne signed a contract with the renowned player agency Pro One Sports and shortly afterwards switched to Telekom Baskets Bonn in Germany. There he was supposed to replace Patrick Flomo, who was still injured after a cruciate ligament rupture in the previous season, and to relieve the pressure after his return to the wing positions. He fulfilled this role better and better in the course of the season and indicated why the Bonn coach Michael Koch had called him a "rough diamond" before the season. In the decisive fifth semi-final game against the Deutsche Bank Skyliners, with 15 points, he had a decisive share in the Bonn’s final.

After the final defeat against Berlin, Diagne let the exit option in his contract expire. In the 2008/2009 season he was able to take another step in his development and increased both his offensive and defensive potential. He became an important role player who was able to set the necessary accents both under the basket and on the wing. In the point game against Ratiopharm Ulm, Diagne suffered an injury to his already damaged knee, which meant the premature end of the season.

His contract in Bonn was not extended as a result. But he stayed there to finish the rehab he had begun and tried to gain a foothold in professional sports again. At the beginning of December 2009, Telekom Baskets announced that Diagne was part of the second team in the 2nd regional league. There he should get the chance to gain match practice and help lead the team to relegation. After the successful relegation, he was called up again for a game in the Bundesliga squad of Telekom Baskets. He played a game in the basketball league in the 2009/2010 season. For the 2010/2011 season he announced that he would be leaving Bonn.

In mid-September 2010 Diagne signed a fixed-term contract with EnBW Ludwigsburg in the basketball league. However, this was not extended and Moussa Diagne was released from Ludwigsburg on September 26, 2010. In 2012 Diagne acquired the B-Trainer license from DBB and works, among other things, as a video coordinator and scout .
