Moustapha Salifou (born June 1, 1983 in Lomé ) is a Togolese football player who is used in midfield.
Career
society
From Togo to the second leagues in Europe
Moustapha Salifou played for Modèle de Lomé in his home country Togo until 2002 before moving to Germany and signing with the then second division club Rot-Weiß Oberhausen . There he came in the following three years on 33 appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga and scored one goal. After the relegation of Oberhausen in 2005, Salifou moved on loan to the French second division club Stade Brest , where he came on only seven missions in the 2005/06 season. From the 2006/07 season Salifou played for the Swiss second division club FC Wil . In his first season in Wil he came to 19 missions. Here he met twice. In the following season Salifou came to four missions before he left the club in August 2007.
Substitute player in the Premier League
On August 31, 2007, Salifou, who was nicknamed "Togolese Zidane " after the 2006 World Cup due to his playmaking qualities, went to Aston Villa after a successful trial session in the English Premier League and signed a one-year contract there. However, Salifou only made his debut in January 2008. On January 12, 2008, Salifou made his debut for Aston Villa when he was on matchday 22, where the Birmingham club beat Reading FC 3-1 in the 90th minute for John Carew was substituted on. After the successful season at Aston Villa, his contract was extended for a further 3 years.
Return to Germany
On November 22, 2011 Salifou returned to Germany and signed with the third division club 1. FC Saarbrücken , where he was presented as a reinforcement. In Saarbrücken he met Jürgen Luginger, whom he knows from common times at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. He made his debut for the Saarland capital club on November 26, 2011. In the 3-1 win on matchday 18 against Kickers Offenbach , he was substituted on for Marcel Ziemer in the 80th minute . After the end of the season he left Saarbrücken and after almost two years without a club, he joined TSV 1860 Rosenheim for four months in March 2014 . After another year without a club, Salifou has been playing for Türkspor Augsburg since August 2015 .
National team
Salifou made his debut for the Togolese national team at the age of 17 and played a total of 66 internationals by 2013, scoring six goals. He was also in the squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, where he played in all three Togo games.
