The Mrhal , formerly Mrdal (German Murder Pond ) is a reservoir in the Czech Republic . It is located in the corridors of the Hlincová Hora and Jivno municipalities in Okres České Budějovice . The Rudolfovský potok or Čertík stream and an unnamed tributary are dammed.

geography

The pond is located on the eastern edge of the Děkan forest area in the Rudolfovský potok or Čertík valley in the Lischauer Schwelle and is the lower and largest of a cascade of six ponds. To the south and south-east lie the ponds Hluboký rybník, Bahnitý rybník, Nosovský rybník, Bendík and Čekal along a nameless stream that flows into the Mrhal.

Jivno is to the north, Vyhlídky to the southeast and Hlincová Hora to the southwest. The Baba rises to the north (578 m above sea level), to the west the Na novinách or Hlincová hora ( Pfaffenberg , 570.5 m above sea level).

history

The earth embankment dam with a clay core and a tarras wall on the water side was built by Italians as of August 14, 1555 as impact water reservoir for the Rudolfstadt silver mining area. After a farmer was murdered on its dam shortly after the pond was completed, the body of water was named Murder Pond . In 1611 the pond dam was destroyed by the Passau soldiers and then lay dry for over a century. The first plans to restore the pond were made in 1733. The city of Budweis realized the restoration of the destroyed dam in 1771 for 21,424 guilders . Since that time the Czech nane Mrdal has been documented, which changed into Mrhal in the 19th century .

On April 3, 1958, the pond was declared a cultural monument. It was last drained in 1961. Today the Mrhal is used for bathing and fishing.
