Mtubatuba is a city in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal . It is located in the parish of the same name in the UMkhanyakude district . It is the seat of the community. In 2011 the city had 27,237 inhabitants.
geography
Mtubatuba is about 200 kilometers north of Durban and about 55 kilometers north of Richards Bay at an altitude of 67 meters above sea level. The N2 affects the city. The Umfolozi River flows south of the city. It is 30 kilometers to the coast.

history
In 1903 Mtubatuba was founded as a siding . Namesake was a Zulu chief . In 1916 a sugar factory and several important service companies were established here . The place suffered considerable damage from floods in 1918 and 1925. In the late 1920s, the swampy area began to be drained using drainage channels. In 1950, Mtubatuba gained the status of an official settlement.
economy
In Mtubatuba the livelihoods are largely based on agriculture. The main products are timber and sugar. There's a sugar mill in River View . Tourism also plays an important role for the city as it is close to many nature reserves such as the iSimangaliso Wetland Park .
