Mueang Fa Daet ( Thai เมือง ฟ้า แดด สง ยาง even Fa Daet Song Yang ) is an archaeological find place in the district ( Amphoe ) Kamalasai the province of Kalasin . The province of Kalasin is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

Location and excavation history

Mueang Fa Daet is located in Tambon Nong Paeng, Amphoe Kamalasai, Kalasin Province, in northeastern Thailand, and thus in the valley of the Mae Nam Chi (Chi River) . The place was enclosed by a moat that covered 171 hectares . A large reservoir of water lay outside the trench.

Finds

Today you can see three enclosures that indicate the successive expansion of the place. Their inner ring consists of various decorative Sema stones, which in the Buddhist world are used as markings for holy places or areas. They are decorated with scenes from the life of the Buddha , but a stone also shows the old city as it is surrounded by a city wall, which is defended by warriors.

A site with prehistoric ceramics indicates a long history of settlement. The time of the main construction activity - at least for the structures still remaining today - points to the late 1st millennium, which points to the Dvaravati culture that existed in the area of today's Thailand at the time .
