Muhammad Asad Durrani

Muhammad Asad Durrani (درانی; Durrānī ) (born February 7, 1941 in Lahore ) is a former Pakistani diplomat and former head of the Pakistani intelligence service ISI .

Life

Muhammad Asad Durrani belongs to a Pashtun tribal confederation that ruled over the Durrani Empire .

From 1957 to 1959 he earned a bachelor's degree from Government College University Lahore and postgraduate studies at Pakistan's National Military Academy, Kakul . In 1960 he was appointed lieutenant in the artillery. In 1965, during the second Indian-Pakistani war , he was promoted to colonel . He was promoted to major in 1968 and was employed in the war against India in December 1971. In 1975 he completed a general course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg. From 1980 to 1984 he was a military attaché in Bonn . From 1988 to 1989 he headed the Military Intelligence (MI). From 1990 to March 1992 he headed Inter-Services Intelligence . In this capacity he supported Gulbuddin Hekmatyār , was dismissed by Nawaz Sharif and retired in May 1993 . From March 22, 1994 to May 1997, he was Pakistan's Ambassador in Bonn .

From 2000 to 2002 he was ambassador to Riyadh . From June 5, 2006 to May 9, 2008, he was the unaccredited ambassador to Washington, DC Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry claimed that Durrani had given at least one political party state funds and thus manipulated elections.
