Abdul Waheed

Abdul Waheed (born March 20, 1937 ) is a former Pakistani diplomat and military officer.

Life

Abdul Waheed belongs to the Kakar Pashtun ethnic group and is a nephew of Mohammed Zia-ul-Haq . He joined the armed forces of Pakistan on October 18, 1959 and is considered the initiator of the Shaheen-I Nuclear Missile Project . From July 1977 to March 1988 he was ambassador in Bonn . In Bonn he made significant contributions to the acquisition of the infrastructure for the production of nuclear weapons .

In January 1993, Asif Nawaz suffered a myocardial infarction from obesity and jogging in Rawalpindi . Which meant that the post of Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) had to be filled. Ghulam Ishaq Khan took the eighth amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan , initiated by Mohammed Zia-ul-Haq , and installed Abdul Waheed as COAS in Rawalpindi .

Waheeds refused to involve the Pakistani armed forces in drug control.

In April 1993 Ghulam Ishaq Khan again made use of the eighth amendment to the constitution, initiated by Mohammed Zia-ul-Haq , and deposed Nawaz Sharif as prime minister. From April 18, 1993 to May 26, 1993, Balakh Sher Mazari ruled until Nawaz Sharif enforced his claim to continued employment as Prime Minister at the Supreme Court.

Waheed failed to formally take power. In July 1993 he negotiated that Ghulam Ishaq Khan also resigned from the office of President and Moin Qureshi led a neutral government from July 18, 1993 to October 19, 1993 and new elections were scheduled for October 1993.
