Muhtar Kent (* 1952 in New York City ) is a Turkish - American manager . From 2008 to May 2017, he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the US beverage company Coca-Cola .

Life

Muhtar Kent has dual citizenship ( Turkey / USA ). His father is the Turkish diplomat Necdet Kent , who saved the lives of numerous Jews in Marseille during the Second World War and was awarded the Raoul Wallenberg Medal in 2005 together with other Turkish diplomats .

Professional background

After studying economics, Kent began working in the beverage industry in the 1970s. He started working for Coca-Cola in 1978 in Atlanta . After Kent mid-1990s because of an insider - trading as now responsible Managing Director of affair Coca-Cola Amatil-Europe had resigned, he took over from 1999 temporarily directing the Efes -Brauerei, bedeutendster shareholders of the Coca-Cola Company in Turkey.
