Mundy , actually Edmond Enright (born May 19, 1975 in Birr , County Offaly ), is an Irish singer and songwriter .

biography

He released his debut album Jellylegs in 1996 on Epic Records . It contains the song "To You I Bestow", which was used for the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann's cinema adaptation of Romeo and Juliet . In 2000, Mundy had to leave Epic while working on the second album, The Moon Is a Bullethole . That's why only one four-track EP was released under this name.

In 2002 Mundy was able to release 24 Star Hotel on the self-founded label Camcor Records . It went triple platinum and sold over 45,000 copies in Ireland alone. After the third album Raining Down Arrows (2004) reached platinum status in Ireland and landed at number 1 in the charts, Mundy was considered one of the most popular Irish singers. He toured the UK with legendary songwriter Jimmy Webb and played as a support act for The White Stripes and Oasis . The live album ( Live & Confusion ) from 2006, which was very successful in Ireland, was followed by Live at Oxegen in 2008 .

In 2009, Mundy recorded his fourth studio album, Strawberry Blood, with Irish producer Joe Chester in 2009 . The album includes features with Shane MacGowan and Gemma Hayes . It rose to number 14 in the Irish charts. For the follow-up album Shuffle in 2011, Mundy put together a number of covers of his singer / songwriter role models such as Bob Dylan and Paul Simon .
