Acámbaro is a municipality in the Mexican state of Guanajuato . The municipality covers an area of 880.3 km². In 2010 Acámbaro had a population of 109,030 people. The administrative seat and most populous place of the municipality is the Acámbaro of the same name .
geography
Acámbaro is located in the south of the state of Guanajuato at altitudes between 1800 m and 3100 m . The municipality is part of the physiographic province of the Sierra Volcánica Transversal and drains into the Pacific via the Río Lerma , which flows through the municipality . The Municipio Acámbaro has a share in the Lago de Cuitzeo and the reservoir of the Presa Solís . Almost two thirds of Acámbaro's geology is made up of extrusive rock with 20% alluvion ; the predominant soil types are the vertisol (55%) and the phaeozem (23%). More than 60% of the community area is used for arable farming, almost a quarter is taken up by forests.
The municipality of Acámbaro borders on the municipalities of Salvatierra , Tarimoro , Jerécuaro and Tarandacuao and the state of Michoacán .

In the 2010 census, 109,030 people in 27,419 residential units were counted in the municipality. Of these, 217 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 36 speakers of the Purépecha . A good ten percent of the population was illiterate. 38,938 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 71% were men or 8.5% were unemployed. 8.7% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
