Dzoncauich is a municipality in the Mexican state of Yucatán . The municipality extends over an area of ​​133.8 km², the 2010 census counted 2772 inhabitants in the municipality. The administrative seat is in Dzoncauich of the same name .

geography

The municipality of Dzoncauich is located in the northern center of the state at an altitude of less than 100  m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Yucatán peninsula , to its sub-province of the Yucatec Karst and to the hydrographic region of Yucatán Norte . With a good 98% of the municipality area, limestone dominates the geology of the municipality and Leptosol as the soil type. A good 71% of the municipality is taken up by pastureland, around a quarter is forested.

The Municipio Dzoncauich borders the Municipios Temax and Tekal de Venegas .

population

In the 2010 census, 2772 people were counted in 738 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 1,472 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 1,465 speakers of the Mayathan . A good 20% of the population was illiterate. 1958 residents of Dzoncauich were registered as economically active, of which a good 71% were men and just under 1% were unemployed. A good 22% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
