Tixpéhual is a municipality in the Mexican state of Yucatán . The municipality extends over an area of ​​71.1 km², the 2010 census counted 5388 inhabitants in the municipality. The administrative headquarters are in Tixpéhual of the same name .

geography

The municipality of Tixpéhual is located in the center of the state at a height of up to 100  m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Yucatán peninsula , to its sub-province of the Yucatec Karst and to the hydrographic region of Yucatán Norte . With almost 97% of the community area, limestone dominates as a rock type and Leptosol as a soil type. About 85% of the community area is forested, about 12% is used for arable farming.

The municipality of Tixpéhual borders on the municipalities of Mérida , Tixkokob , Seyé , Acanceh and Kanasín .

population

In the 2010 census, 5388 people were counted in 1361 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 1,428 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 1,410 speakers of the Mayathan . Over eight percent of the population was illiterate. 2210 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which 70.5% were men and 4.25% were unemployed. About 6.5% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
