Quintana Roo is a municipality in the Mexican state of Yucatán . The municipality extends over an area of ​​103.7 km², the 2010 census counted 942 inhabitants in the municipality. The administrative seat is the eponymous Quintana Roo , the only inhabited place of the municipality.

geography

The municipality of Quintana Roo is centrally located in the state of Yucatán at an altitude of less than 100  m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Yucatán peninsula , to its sub-province of the Yucatec Karst and to the hydrographic region of Yucatán Norte . With around 99.4% of the municipal area, limestone dominates the geology of the municipality, the predominant soil types are the Phaeozem (63%) and Leptosol (36%). 99% of the area of ​​the municipality is occupied by rainforest.

The Municipio Quintana Roo borders the Municipios Dzitás , Cenotillo and Tunkás .

In the 2010 census, 942 people were counted in 257 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 381 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language (all as speakers of Mayathan ). 21.5% of the population were illiterate. 282 residents of Quintana Roos were registered as economically active, of which over 88% were men or a good two percent were unemployed. A good 27% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
