The Murpark shopping center is a shopping center in the east of Graz on the A2 motorway slip road Graz Ost and on the border of the districts of St. Peter , Jakomini and Liebenau . The shopping center with 36,000 m² of sales area belongs to the Spar Austria Group and was opened in 2007.

shopping mall

In the planning phase, the shopping center was awarded the MAPIC Retail Future Project Award in 2005. The Murpark, which opened on March 21, 2007, offers space for localities on a total sales area of around 36,000 m². The construction costs amounted to around 85 million euros. The shopping center is designed for 75 shops and bars. The Interspar hypermarket has the largest sales area in the shopping center and was awarded the “Goldene Merkur” in October 2007 by the Austrian business publisher, an award given annually to 16 Austrian retailers. Other larger stores are the sporting goods retailer Hervis and Kastner & Öhler. The shopping center is operated by SES Spar European Shopping Centers, which is part of the Spar Austria Group. In 2013 Murpark received the Commendation Establish Centers at the ICSC European Shopping Center Awards and in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2014 the award for the most bicycle-friendly shopping center in the Graz and Graz area .

The Murpark was designed and opened as an open, covered shopping street, similar to a US shopping mall. The existing renovation of the Interspar building, however, was carried out using a closed construction method. This building was connected to the rest of the shopping center by a pedestrian bridge that runs over the tram line. In 2008 the mall was air-conditioned and in 2014 the two parts of the building on the upper floor were structurally and thermally connected. In 2013, the Ostbahn's own S-Bahn stop was put into operation at Murpark.

architecture

The new construction of the Murpark shopping center developed by ATP Architects and Engineers is the first implementation of an open, non-air-conditioned shopping center concept in Austria. The two-storey, open shopping center combines shops, parking decks and Interspar - hypermarket . The last, an existing renovation, can be identified as an independent structure . The light shafts lengthened to form light towers subdivide the 350 meter long transparent glass front . In 2008, based on the planning by ATW Architektur Technik und Wirtschaft, the air conditioning and, as a result, the thermal merging of the parts of the building on the upper floor.

S-Bahn station Graz Liebenau-Murpark

The project development of the transport connection and the transport expansion took place as a public-private partnership between the client and the city of Graz. The Graz tram lines 4 and 13 were extended to Murpark, the bus lines 64, 72, 74 and 75 have their terminus there or stop here. Another six regional bus routes also stop. The Murpark is located directly on the Graz Ost motorway slip road. The adjacent Park + Ride multi-storey car park, which was built for 4.7 million euros and has around 2,000 parking spaces, as well as additional free parking spaces, should enable commuters to Graz to switch to public transport on the periphery. A separate combination ticket has been set up for this, with which you can park for 24 hours and use the entire transport network of the Graz Linien. As a local transport hub, Murpark is also the P + R transfer point for visitors to the Merkur Arena , the Liebenau artificial ice stadium , the Graz trade fair and the Graz city hall . At the end of 2009, the P + R parking garage was used at 53%. The planning was based on 95% utilization. In 2013, the S-Bahn station on the Ostbahn was put into operation right next to Murpark.
