Murree

Murree is a small town in the Punjab Province of northern Pakistan in the Galyat region .

It was built in 1851 by the British Governor of Punjab, Sir Henry Lawrence , as a so-called Hill Station and has always been a tourist destination . Many buildings from the Wilhelminian era are still preserved. Meanwhile, it is believed by the Ahmadiyya community that the Virgin Mary (mother of Jesus of Nazareth) is buried in Murree. Muree is located at an altitude of 2300 meters above sea level . From here you have a good view of the surrounding mountains up to those of the Himalayas . In addition to the view and nature, the place is also popular in summer because of its mild temperatures.

Muree can be reached from Islamabad - Rawalpindi in two hours via a well-developed road.

tourism

Murree is economically very dependent on tourism. Due to its geographical proximity to Islamabad , the capital of Pakistan , Murree is one of the most visited places in the northern mountainous region of the country. Murree is a popular destination, especially for honeymoons. In addition, surrounding areas such as Bhurban and Partriata have also been greatly developed in terms of tourism in the last few decades. Patriata is also known as "New Murree". In Bhurban, a five-star hotel and a nine-hole golf course were built in the middle of the mountains with the Pearl Continental.
