The Musée des tramways à vapeur et des chemins de fer secondaires français is a museum for French steam trams and branch lines at the Valmondois train station in Butry-sur-Oise in the Val-d'Oise department , 30 kilometers north of Paris .

history

The museum was founded in 1976 and was given its current name in 1999. It should move to the Vexin area , where there is a larger engine shed and a longer track. This plan was abandoned in 2009. Instead, it has been planned since 2013 to move the museum and the museum railway to Crèvecœur-le-Grand .

Exhibits

The museum, directed by Olivier Janneau, shows around 5000 visitors a year ten steam locomotives, five diesel locomotives, 27 passenger cars and around 30 freight cars. It is a collection of railway vehicles that are being restored and preserved by the members of the museum, which is organized as an association. During the season, trips can be made on a one kilometer long narrow-gauge railway with a gauge of 1000 mm, which is nicknamed the Chemin de fer des impressionnistes (Impressionist Railway).

Thirty vehicles in the collection are listed as Monuments Historiques .
