Musaios (grammarian)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Musaios the grammarian ( Greek  Μουσαῖος ) was a late ancient Greek poet. The epyllion about the love of Hero and Leander has been handed down ( Τὰ καθ̓ 'Ἡρὼ καὶ Λέανδρον ). The poem after Nonnos of Panopolis is to be set in time , since Musaios is linguistically dependent on Nonnos, and before Kolluthos , who used it, thus around 500.

The poem was adapted in Italian by Bernardo Tasso and had an impact on Christopher Marlowe and other editors of the subject in modern times.

The love poem Alpheus and Arethusa ( Anthologia Palatina 9.362) is also attributed to Musaios. He has also been identified with the addressee of letters 48 and 60 from Prokopios of Gaza .
