Bernardo Tasso
Bernardo Tasso (born November 11, 1493 in Bergamo , † September 5, 1569 in Mantua ) was an Italian poet.
Life
Tasso was born in Bergamo in the famous courier family Tasso , studied in Padua and then held various positions in Rome , Ferrara and Venice , where he already made a name for himself as a poet. In 1531 he entered the service of Prince Ferdinando Sanseverino of Salerno , whom he followed into exile in 1552. In his poems he imitated the ancient classics. His works “Odi” (1560) and “Salmi” (1560) are based on the model of Horace . His most popular work was "Amadigi di Gaula" (1560), an Italian verse arrangement by Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo "Amadis de Gaula" (1560), which he embellished with self-invented episodes. In 1587 his son Torquato Tasso completed and published the "Floridante" .
