action

Suat came to Berlin to work , his wife Nurcan stayed in her home village. In Berlin, Suat is supported by his friend Metin. He is plagued by nightmares and delusions of increasing brutality, it appears to him in a distorted form Nurcan that tells him that she is pregnant, it is but pick up the child. His mother appears to him at the travel agency, who does not allow him to buy a ticket to Turkey, and he appears to himself. The phone calls with his mother are characterized by the fact that the mother does not respond to what he has said and gives incoherent answers . Suat tries to throw himself from a building near the Memorial Church, but is prevented by a person. The subsequent clinical tomography certifies that he is in complete health. On Metin's advice, the two now go to Turkey to seek suat's salvation from a famous Islamic scholar, Hacı Burhan Kasavi. After a few sessions it turns out that Suat is molested by a jinn . The scholar prescribes a muska (Islamic talisman) for Suat .

The film deals with Islamic suras that refer to a pact between humans and jinn, according to which humans and jinn are not allowed to enter the other's world. Man broke this agreement, according to which the jinn began to enter the human world. In the case of Suat and Nurcan, it turns out to be a particularly severe form of jinn harassment. A Djinn has loved Nurcan for a long time. After her marriage to Suat, he is now doing everything possible to destroy this marriage. Since a jinn wants to own a person out of love in this case, an escape is hardly possible.

Shortly afterwards, Suat dies when he takes off his talisman to shower. Metin calls Hacı Burhan, who hastily leaves his apartment in order to bury Suat immediately. Metin escapes with the car during the funeral and dies in a car accident. Hacı Burhan returns home on a bus and finds his entire family killed by the jinn.

Hacı Burhan is now writing down the history before he dies himself. In the following, this prehistory is told starting with the wedding celebration of Suat and Nurcan. Many scenes make it clear that Suat was no longer himself in many situations before he left for Berlin. He leaves the apartment several times without being able to tell where he was. In a conversation with Nurcan, Suat tells her that he has always loved her and would not have let her marry anyone else. Nurcan is amazed why he didn't confess his love to her years ago. But Suat says that he had been with Nurcan for years, she just didn't know that. It was already clear in Turkey that Nurcan was pregnant. After Nurcan gives birth to a disfigured being, Suat is harassed more and more by the jinn. During the phone calls it turns out that the mother never took these phone calls. Suat was brought to Berlin by the Djinn so that he would be far away from Nurcan, who is loved by the Djinn.

Reviews

“With Musallat , the production companies Mia Film and Dada Film are breaking a Turkish taboo: the jinn. That means something like spirit or demon. In the Koran a sura is dedicated to these beings, in which it says, among other things: '... and I created the jinns and people only to serve Me ...'. At the time when the Prophet Mohammed moved from Mecca to Medina, the beings of the underworld and the people made a pact. Nobody should ever leave their world. But after it was disregarded by the people, the pact was no longer binding on the jinn either. With Musallat , the subject is being treated on the big screen for the first time. "

"The director approaches this mystery with impressive visual effects and horroresque scenes."

“Turkish horror film that plays on several levels of narrative and meaning and refers to American exorcism models as well as the Koran. The story is about love and experiences of foreignness, but in view of the awkward staging and a jumble of memories, visions and nightmares, orientation is quite difficult. "

  • Musallat grossed $ 1,802,504 in Turkey and $ 2,170,188 worldwide.
