features

The fore wing length is 13 to 16 millimeters. Muschampia cribrellum is very similar to Muschampia tessellum , although it is somewhat smaller, but has larger white spots. There are two pairs of post-disc spots in cell 1b on the forewings . However, the lower of the two spots may be weakened or reduced. The white discal bar on the upper side of the forewing, which is present in Muschampia tesselatum , is missing in Muschampia cribellum . The underside of the hind wings is olive yellow with large white spots that partially converge (especially the submarginal spots).

Geographical occurrence and habitat

Muschampia cribrellum is distributed from northern Hungary , Romania , Macedonia , Bulgaria and across the Ukraine , southern Russia to the Altai and the Amurland . The moth can be found on dry steppes , even with bushes. In Macedonia it was found at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level.

Way of life

The moths fly in one generation from May to June. For the Altai, June and July are given as the flight time of the moths. The caterpillar probably eats finger herbs ( Potentilla ssp.)
