The Armed Forces Museum of Figueres ( Spanish Museo Historico Militar de Figueres ) located inside the fortress of San Fernando ( Spanish Castillo de San Fernando , Catalan Castell de Sant Ferran ), which from the 18th century, originating bulwark fortress near the Catalan town of Figueres .
history
The museum was opened in January 2010 as a successor to the military museum in the castle of Montjuïc (near Barcelona about 120 km southwest of Figueres), which had been closed in 1963. The museum is located in the building of the old arsenal of the San Fernando Fortress in the Juan Caballero room.
exhibition
The museum presents weapons , uniforms , flags , paintings , historical documents and other exhibits . The Llovera collection is a specialty . There are around 11,000 pewter figures that represent a miniature scene from the early 20th century with people, cattle, vehicles and weapons. There are also models of the Catalan fortress structures on display, as well as other military miniatures. This includes the Quintana collection , which showcases ancient weapons.
The museum is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
