SchPIRA Museum
The SchPIRA Museum is a museum in the Rhineland-Palatinate city of Speyer .
It presents archaeological exhibits from Speyer's Jewish life in the Middle Ages , "Schpira" is the historical Hebrew name for the name Speyer's "Spira" one of the three ShUM cities . On 80 square meters, a round arch fragment from the 12th century, tombstones from the 14th century and a double-arched window from the years 1110/20 can be seen. Some of the exhibits are on permanent loan from the Historisches Museum der Pfalz in Speyer. The museum was opened on November 9, 2010, 72 years after the Reichspogromnacht , during which the synagogue in Speyer was destroyed. The exhibition sees itself as a supplement to the neighboring Judenhof , with which exhibits on the three most important pillars of the Jewish community can be viewed, the synagogue, the cemetery and the mikvah .
