Erdbachium Museum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zeitsprge Museum (3/2019 Museum Erdbachium) is a voluntary museum in Breitscheid-Erdbach . It had a geological and archaeological focus and was looked after by an association of the same name. Since 2010–2015, the museum has also acted as the official GeoPark information center for the Westerwald-Lahn-Taunus Geopark . Since the museum is currently closed (as of the end of 2015) and the contract with the operating association has been terminated, the Breitscheid municipality will continue to use it as a museum in the future. On March 22, 2019, the museum was reopened by the Breitscheid community in a ceremony with invited guests. The future name of the museum is Erdbachium . On March 24, 2019, the " Erdbachium - Center for Lime, Celts and Culture" reopened to the general public after more than four years. In future, our Erdbachium will be open on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month. The main person responsible for this museum is Ulrich Horch.

General

The museum was founded by the Breitscheid Heimat- und Geschichtsverein (now Zeit Sprung eV). The old school building in the Erdbach district , which is located right next to the village community center, served as the location for the exhibition . The museum was run by the non-profit association Zeitsprge e. V., who in addition to the museum operated a pottery museum in Breitscheid, as well as the show cave Herbstlabyrinth until the termination by the municipality (end of 2014).

exhibition

The museum primarily dealt with the subject of geological history and archeology , and secondarily with cave research . Large parts of the exhibits came from the region, which is known for its geological characteristics. A lot of fossils were exhibited, including fossilized shells , plants , trilobites , snails , but also larger objects such as cave bear bones and fragments of pike . Large parts of the inventory are on loan from the Natural History Museum in Dortmund .

From an archaeological point of view, finds from the Erdbach stone chambers could be admired, which indicate early human settlement. During excavations, fragments of ceramic objects from the Neolithic , the later Bronze Age and the Iron Age were discovered . In addition, human bone fragments were discovered in two body graves . The spiral neck ring is considered a specificity, which is a unique piece with its filigree and technically high-quality workmanship.

A cave room gave the visitor an insight into the activities of the cave researchers of the Speleological Working Group Hessen eV In addition, one got an insight into the research work in the Breitscheid Karst area , as well as into the unique cave world on site.

Karst nature trail

The museum's competencies were expanded with its range of exhibits to include the so-called karst educational trail, which is located in the oldest nature reserve in Hesse. This is located in a westerly direction and leads through the alley gorge directly to the stalactite cave Herbstlabyrinth or as a circular route past the stone chambers. The karst nature trail has an informative and educational purpose and educates visitors and tourists about the geological and historical features of the area. In this way, the visitors are informed about the respective location by means of signs. Furthermore, there is a diverse flora and fauna that can be observed at close range. The area is a karst area; the massive limestone deposits are classified as Devonian mass limestone . The municipality of Breitscheid offers regular guided tours on the karst educational trail.
