The Muskwa River is a left tributary of the Fort Nelson River in the north of the Canadian province of British Columbia .

The river originates in Fern Lake at Bedaux Pass in the Canadian Rockies . From there it flows mainly in an easterly direction. In the middle reaches the river turns north. It takes in the tributaries of Gathto Creek , Tuchodi River , Chischa River , Tetsa River, and Kledo Creek , all from the left. In the lower reaches of the Muskwa River flows east again. Shortly before it flows into the Fort Nelson River , its largest tributary, the Prophet River , meets the Muskwa River from the right. Then he passes the small town of Fort Nelson . The Muskwa River has a length of 257 km. Its catchment area covers around 20,300 km². The mean discharge is 214 m³ / s. The upper reaches of the Muskwa River and parts of its catchment area lie in the Northern Rocky Mountains Provincial Park .
