Mutale is a city in the Limpopo province of South Africa . It is located in Musina municipality in the Vhembe district and was the administrative seat of Mutale municipality until 2016 .

In 2011 Mutale had a population of 14,490 (2011 census). Around 98% of them said that Tshivenda was their mother tongue. The city lies on the southern edge of the eastern part of the Soutpansberge . To the south is Thohoyandou , to the northwest Musina .
Until 1994, Mutale was part of the Homeland Venda .
