Musina ( English Musina Local Municipality , formerly Messina ) is a local municipality in the district of Vhembe , Limpopo province . It is the northernmost community in South Africa . The administrative headquarters are in Musina . Mihloti Ethel Muhlope is the mayor.
The local community is named after the Musina, a tribe of the Venda . Musina means "copper".
On August 3, 2016, the neighboring municipality of Mutale was integrated into the municipality. This increased the area to 9923 km². The population of the enlarged municipality is (as of 2011) 160,229.
