The Mutton Cove (English for Hammel Bay ) is a natural harbor in front of the Graham Coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 800 m northeast of the southern end of Beer Island , which covers the bay to the west. It is limited by the islands of Harp Island , Upper Island , Cliff Island and Girdler Island in the Biscoe Islands archipelago .
Participants of the British Grahamland Expedition (1934–1937) discovered the bay. Expedition leader John Rymill named it after a bay of the same name near the Devonport naval base , the training place of the expedition member and naval lieutenant Robert Edward Dudley Ryder (1908-1986).
