my105 is a Swiss youth radio . It has been broadcasting in the cable network throughout German-speaking Switzerland since 1998 , and was founded by Giuseppe Scaglione under the name Radio 105 . Since 2018 the program has also been available in French and Italian.

history

The radio station Radio 105 was operated by Music First Network AG under the direction of Giuseppe Scaglione until 2014 and is considered to be the first regional youth radio in Switzerland. Since September 9, 2009, Radio 105 could also be received in the Zurich region via VHF and was moderated almost continuously on weekdays. Until this date, the station was located in Muttenz. With the VHF license for coverage area 25 (City of Zurich), the transmitter has received an explicit service mandate from the Federal Office of Communications for the City of Zurich. In 2009 the studio moved from Muttenz to Zurich Oerlikon. For around 10 years, Radio 105 fought for a VHF frequency with all legally available means - even with legal proceedings against DETEC / OFCOM and against competitors. In 2008, Music First Network AG received two VHF licenses (one for Radio 105 and one for the RMC Züri project), while Radio Energy Zurich received nothing. Without a VHF license, Energy would have had to cease operations within 90 days. Music First Network AG sold the concession for the RMC Züri project to the Ringier Group in 2009 so that Energy Zurich could be saved and sent on. In return, Energy undertook to market Radio 105 and pay an annual guarantee for it. A year later, Radio 105 ran into financial difficulties.

In 2010, Radio 105 was awarded the Zurich frequency 93.0. At this point the new slogan Today's Best Music was introduced. Radio 105 subsequently positioned itself even more strongly than young, urban radio. Radio 105 was extremely successful, reaching 124,000 listeners a day in 2012. That is why Radio 105 received the Radio Of The Year industry award three times in a row on Swiss Radio Day . Radio 105 also launched the "105 DJ Night" series of events, where numerous star DJs performed on a single evening.

The Bernese boxing promoter and ex-advertiser (Contexta) Daniel Hartmann took over the operating company of Radio 105 in summer 2013 as investor, main shareholder and Chairman of the Board of Directors and wanted to expand the company significantly.

Financial difficulties in 2014

On January 13, 2014, Music First Network AG, which was responsible for the operation of Radio 105 , announced that the bankruptcy judge had been informed of the company's overindebtedness. This step, which came as a surprise to the public, was necessary because the new investor Daniel Hartmann, who had taken over the majority of the company's shares and chaired the board of directors in July 2013 and committed to its restructuring, refused to make further payments, although these had been contractually guaranteed. At that time, Radio 105 had around 20 employees.

After Roger Schawinski took over the FM license from Radio 105 and renamed the station Planet 105 , the number of listeners fell by 30–40% and several key employees left the station. At times, Planet 105 only had 70,000 listeners.

Scaglione launches my105 music app

On May 28, 2015, Giuseppe Scaglione and his wife Paola Libera launched an interactive streaming platform with several themed channels under the name "my105". He was able to secure the rights to the original brand 105 . The launch was celebrated with a launch party at the Zurich Club Alice Choo , where prominent personalities from the Swiss media and advertising scene were present. Scaglione's new project my105 developed into a success and, according to a representative study, had twice as many listeners as Schawinski's Planet 105 in the first year. In summer 2019 my105 expanded its streaming portal and brought in various international DJs such as Robin Schulz , Bob Sinclar or Martin Garrix on board. The claim DJ radio was also introduced. My105 now operates more than 30 music and DJ channels.

105 DJ Radio has been broadcasting in 12 cities in German-speaking Switzerland in the Digris network via DAB + since November 2019 , namely in Zurich , Basel , Bern , Lucerne , Zug , Aarau , Olten , St. Gallen , Winterthur , Schaffhausen , Biel and Solothurn . In total, around 3.6 million potential listeners are reached.

With the slogan “Today's Best Music”, the station focuses primarily on current and trendy music from the areas of hip-hop , German rap , urban Latin, reggaeton , dance , house and electro . Internationally known DJs such as Robin Schulz , Bob Sinclar , Martin Garrix and Oliver Heldens play on 105 DJ Radio at the weekend .

Since November 2019, “my105” with the “ 105 DJ Radio ” program can also be received via DAB + in 8 cities in German-speaking Switzerland. According to its own information, the station had around 170,000 listeners in June 2019.
