Mychajlo Mykolaiowytsch Petrenko ( Ukrainian Михайло Миколайович Петренко ; * 1817 in Slovyansk , Charkov Governorate , Russian Empire ; † December 13th July / December 25th 1862 greg. In Lebedyn , Charkov Governorate, and was a Dramatian Empire of the Ukraine, Charketov ), Russian Empire .
Life
Not too much is known about Mychajlo Petrenko's biography. Since 1833 he lived in Kharkiv and began in 1837 to study at the Faculty of Law of the Imperial University of Kharkov , which he graduated in 1841. After graduating, he worked as a civil servant at the Kharkiv Chamber Criminal Court.
As a poet he belonged to the "Charkiv Romantic School" and wrote lyrical and elegiac poetry, unusual for this epoch . Nineteen of his poems appeared in three literary almanacs in 1841, 1843, and 1848 and some of them, such as Dyvlius' ia na nebo , became folk songs. In 1960 his poems appeared in a limited edition together with poems by Wiktor Sabila .
Honors
The asteroid (274843) Mykhailopetrenko , discovered on August 24, 2009 by the Andrushivka Astronomical Observatory , was named in his honor.
