The Salvin wood warbler ( Myioborus flavivertex ) is a small songbird from the genus Myioborus in the wood warbler family (Parulidae). The distribution area is in Colombia . The IUCN lists them as “not at risk” (least concern).

Salvin wood warblers reach a body length of 13 centimeters. The wing length is 5.6 centimeters in the male and 5.2 to 5.3 centimeters in the female. In the adult Salvin wood warblers and young birds from the first year, the upper rein area, the semicircular ring above the eye and the narrow band that runs across the forehead are brownish-yellow. The neck and head plumage with a prominent yellow crown is black. The wings are dark olive green with narrow gray feather edges. The upper side plumage is olive green, the lower side plumage light yellow and the under tail-coverts white. The tail is blackish with white outer feathers. The beak and legs are also blackish.

Occurrence, nutrition and reproduction

Salvin wood warblers occur in the mountain ranges of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in northern Colombia. They inhabit moist mountain rainforests , cloud and cloud forests and bush-like forest edges at altitudes of 1500 to 3050 meters, but are mostly found above 2000 meters. At altitudes of 1500 to 2000 meters, they can often be seen together with the larval wood warbler ( Myioborus miniatus ). They feed mainly on insects . The bowl-shaped nest is placed well hidden on the ground or close to the ground. The breeding season has not been carefully studied. There is one recording in May with a clutch consisting of two eggs. A young bird that had just fledged was sighted in July.
