Myioborus is agenus of songbirds consisting of twelve speciesfrom the wood warbler family(Parulidae). The outer, white tail feathers are characteristic. In the English language they are therefore also called Whitestart ( -start is an archaic word for tail ).
The incorrect name Alternatively Redstart probably due to the superficial similarity of Schnäpperwaldsängers ( Setophaga ruticilla ) to the actual redstarts back to Rotschwänzen ( Phoenicurus ) in the family of flycatchers (Muscicapidae). In the past, the red-breasted warbler ( Myioborus pictus ), like other representatives of the genus, was placed in the genus Setophaga , which also bear the name Redstart . Robert Ridgway considered the genus Setophaga to be a sister genus of the genus Myioborus .
features
Most species reach a body length of 13.0 to 13.5 centimeters, with the exception of the red-breasted wood warbler, which reaches a body length of 15 centimeters. The upper side plumage is dark gray to gray to olive gray, the lower side plumage is yellow to orange to red. The common characteristic of the species is the outer white tail feathers.
