Mykola Andriyovych Rokyzkyj ( Ukrainian Микола Андрійович Рокицький , Russian ; born April 6 . Jul / 19th April  1901 greg. In Saritschtschja , volhynian governorate , Russian Empire ; † 11. February 1944 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian painter.

Life

Mykola Rokyzkyj came in Saritschtschja in Ujesd Kovel in Ukraine today Volodymyr-Volynskyi Raion of Oblast Volyn , the son of a miner to the world. He attended the high school in Volodymyr-Wolynskyi . After he and his family were evacuated to Kiev at the beginning of the First World War, he studied there between 1922 and 1927 at the State Art Institute in Kiev with Mychajlo Bojchuk . In the 1920s he was a member of the Union of Revolutionary Art of Ukraine (АРМУ).

Rokyzkyj created easel paintings and frescoes. Initially influenced by Western European trends, especially Post-Impressionism, he painted socialist-realistic works after being accused of formalism and stylization .

He died at the age of 42 in Kiev and was buried there in the Lukjanivska cemetery .
