Lukjanivska Cemetery
The Lukjaniwska Cemetery ( Ukrainian Лук'янівський цвинтар / Lukjaniwskyj zwyntar ) is one of the oldest and most important cemeteries in the Ukrainian capital Kiev .
The cemetery , laid out in 1878, has a size of 20.45 hectares and is divided into 45 sections. 227 graves and tombstones are under state protection. The cemetery is located southeast of Babyn Yar in the Shevchenko district . On July 1, 1994, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine declared the cemetery a historical and cultural monument.
The Orthodox Saint Kateryna Cemetery Chapel was inaugurated in 2011. It stands in the place of a wooden chapel that was sold in 1974.
To the north of the cemetery is the Lukjaniwska military cemetery and to the north of this are the remains of the Jewish cemetery Lukjaniwskyj .
