Nikolai Nikolayevich Duchonin

Nikolay Dukhonin ( Russian Николай Николаевич Духонин * 1. jul. / 13. December  1876 greg. Smolensk , † November 20 jul. / 3 December  1917 greg. In Mogilev ) was the last commander in chief of the Imperial Russian Army .

As a high-ranking officer , after the attempted military coup by General Kornilov in September 1917, he was appointed commander-in-chief of the Russian army . Since he did not obey Lenin's orders to end the war against the Central Powers, he was murdered on November 20 at the headquarters of the Stavka in Mogilev by Red Guards led by Nikolai Krylenko . Krylenko was appointed by Lenin to succeed him at the head of the armed forces. After his death, his widow was able to secretly transport the body to Kiev, where his ashes were found on November 26th . / December 9,  1917 greg. was buried in the Lukjanivska cemetery .
