Felix Carrasco

Félix Carrasco-Córdova (born July 29, 1955 ) is a Mexican conductor.

Carrasco first studied piano, oboe and conducting at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Mexico. He then continued his training until 1982 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Karl Österreicher (orchestra conductor), Thomas Christian David (composition), Harald Goertz (opera performance) and Günther Theuring (choir director).

After a successful debut in the Wiener Musikverein, he led various chamber orchestras, including the First Women's Chamber Orchestra of Austria (1982-83) and the Pro-Arte Orchestra in Vienna (1983-85). From 1986 to 1990 he was second conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Mexico city . From 1991 to 2009 he was artistic director and chief conductor of the symphony orchestra of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León in Monterrey, with which he gave more than forty concerts a year. He also founded the Monterrey Chamber Orchestra in 1997 . Artists such as Lucia Aliberti , Ramón Vargas , Mario Hossen , İdil Biret , Antal Zalai , Jörg Demus , Carlos Prieto , Eva María Zuk , Otto Sauter , Joan Kwuon , Michael Werba , Carlos Bonell and Wadim Brodsky performed under his direction . Since 2002 he has recorded several albums with the Monterrey UANL Symphony Orchestra.

In 2000, Carrasco founded the Conciertos in Mangas de Camisia , where he performs popular classical works and symphonic versions of pop music. He was guest conductor of numerous orchestras in Europe, Asia and America and was for several years permanent guest conductor of the Zurich Symphony Orchestra , the orchestra of the Baltic Philharmonic in Gdansk, the Orquestra do Norte , the Cairo Symphony Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México .

As a professor, he has taught conducting at several Mexican universities: Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León , Autonomous University of Coahuila and the National Autonomous University of Mexico .

In 1995, Carrasco awarded the Autonomous University of Nuevo León its highest award for science and art; In 1997 he received the gold medal for special merits from the state of Nuevo León .
